The ABA is back at it again. The annual tradition of announcing new franchises that probably will never see the light of day is upon us. Tryout camps are scheduled, cheerleaders are auditioned, arenas are secured. Then come opening night, no teams show up to play ball and you wonder if it was all just a fantasy.
The latest team to be dreamt alive is the Hollywood Fame, a celebrity backed group of ballers who plan to call the Los Angeles Sports Arena their home. Included in the ownership group are “AJ Discala, CEO of Brax Capital Group; Nick Lachey, Geoff Stults (“7th Heaven” and “The Break-Up”); Stacy Keibler (“Dancing With The Stars”), former NBA legend John Salley; former MLB All-Star Brady Anderson; NFL quarterback Kyle Boller of the Baltimore Ravens and NASCAR’s Brian Vickers”.
Really? Because after looking at this logo I would have thought that Jimmy, your friendly Kinko’s lackey, did the team a favor and designed it on one of the house computers during his lunch break. Wouldn’t you expect one of the multi-millionaires on that list to front the team an extra $20 to make it look marginally professional. Come on John Salley, you played basketball all of your life. Have you ever seen a basketball that looks that messed up?
It makes you wonder if these “celebrities” know anything about the Hollywood Fame. My theory is that whoever owns the Fame sent each of them one share of fake stock and then proclaimed them owners. Why he didn’t go for actual celebrities is beyond me, but that’s kind of par for the course with the ABA – do everything half assed and set your sights low.
In related news, there is a rumor that Kristen Bell (Veronica Mars), Sir Mix-A-Lot, Michael Knight (Project Runway), NBA Legend Gheorghe Muresan, former Seattle Mariners outfielder Gorman Thomas and Microsoft’s Bill Gates will soon be joining the ownership group of The Sports Logo Pundit. I only half ass it half the time.
